The EU Ecolabel is the official environmental label of the European Union, awarded only to businesses that meet strict sustainability criteria. For our guests, this means:

  • Lower energy consumption and increased use of renewable energy
  • Reduced water consumption and eco-friendly cleaning methods
  • Strong focus on waste separation and recycling
  • No use of harmful chemicals

By choosing Sønderby Strand Camping, you choose a holiday with peace of mind – surrounded by nature and with respect for the environment.

Sustainable & environmentally friendly

As a campsite, we are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and therefore implement various green measures. We want to offer our guests a beautiful and at the same time sustainable and environmentally friendly camping experience.

In recent years, we have implemented a number of sustainable measures:

Renewable energies

To protect the environment, we rely on renewable energies.

We have converted our power supply system to environmentally friendly technologies. We have installed solar panels on the course and supply the whole course with “green electricity”.

We also heat with environmentally friendly heat pumps.

Water is a scarce resource

Our sanitary facilities are equipped with environmentally friendly systems to conserve water. We have equipped our showers with a timer to encourage our guests to use water sparingly. Of course, it is possible to extend the shower time, but we would like to remind our guests not to use the showers longer than necessary.

Our taps are also equipped with sensors that let the water flow only when it is really needed. This prevents the water from running unnecessarily and being wasted.

The toilets are also equipped with water-saving techniques. These have, for example, a two-button flush to reduce water consumption. In addition, we primarily use water-free urinals to also save water.

Waste separation

- Especially since the 2023 camping season, the topic of waste separation at the campsite has become even more prominent. On the square there is now a large garbage collection point with different garbage bins in which our guests can separate their garbage. This allows us to recycle and reuse waste, thereby protecting our environment.

You can find our diagram for waste separation here.

You can find more information about waste separation here.

Sustainable transport

If we can help reduce CO2 emissions, we would like to do so. Therefore, we recommend that you cycle around the island. It can be your own, or you can rent it from us. It is not only an environmentally friendly way of transport, but also the most beautiful and sensual way to explore all the small and cozy corners of Kegnæs

If you have an electric car and want to use this instead, you will find a charging station at the campsite. It is easy to use via the Monta app.

There is also the option of taking the bus to Sønderborg. Then you have to take line 229. You can find the bus timetable here. You can also bring your bike on the bus. This way you can cycle to Sønderborg and take the bus back to the campsite.

Help us keep nature and the sea clean

We have installed a station with trash bags, making it easy for everyone to take a bag along on their walk and help collect litter along the way. Even small efforts make a big difference, as much of the litter found in nature eventually ends up in the sea through rainwater and streams.

Litter in the ocean harms both wildlife and the environment. Birds, fish, and marine animals can become trapped in plastic or mistake it for food. Over time, plastic breaks down into microplastics that spread throughout the marine environment. That is why it is important to remove litter before it reaches the sea.

Filled trash bags can be disposed of in our containers located in the area.

This initiative was created in collaboration with Havmiljøvogter – together we can help protect nature and our marine environment.

Help us take care of our nature and environment

Being environmentally and climate friendly is very important to us, it can also start small. By answering 5 short questions, you can help us become even better at looking after our nature and environment.

As a campsite, we want to do our part to protect and preserve the environment. We hope to be able to contribute to this in the future, together with our guests.
